City of Sacramento to host 150 Wounded Warriors in “Thank You for Your Service” event

May 4, 2011

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – "Thank You for Your Service" is a one day sports event for 150 wounded, ill or injured Guard and Reserve U.S. Army soldiers who are in the Community Based Warrior Transition Unit. They will participate in wheelchair softball, wheelchair basketball, swimming, scuba, handcycling, tandem cycling, shot put, discus, javelin, and rock climbing on a climbing wall. These soldiers are all working toward recovering and transitioning either back to regular duty or to separate as civilian veterans.

“Thank You for Your Service” is a city sponsored event through the Paralympic Sport Sacramento Club, which includes the City of Sacramento, Department of Parks and Recreation- Paralympic Sport Sacramento Club and four additional Northern California Paralympic Sport Clubs from Lake Tahoe, Bay Area, San Jose, and Mammoth Lakes.

Media are welcome and invited to attend; Warriors will be available to speak with media in between sports sessions.

Chief Service Officer, Keith Hart will be in attendance to make a brief statement at the opening ceremonies.
