This Day/Arise Magazine to Honor Bethann Hardinson with Arise Icon of Style Award
THISDAY/ARISE Magazine prepares to bring the African glitz and glamour fashion swagger to New York with African Fashion Collective 2009, as only Africans can. Part of the festivities for the Pan-African fashion show includes an award that will take place backstage, just before Xuly Bet, Tiffany Amber, Stoned Cherrie and Momo take to the stage.
Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY Group, Nduka Obaigbena, will present the first ARISE Icon of Style Award to legendary model and agent, Bethann Hardinson. If you don't know Bethann Hardinson, allow us to introduce you.
Hardinson, for over a decade, has been a big activist for black models in fashion, and especially n the runways. She modeled during her modeling career for designers like Willi Smith, Oscar de la Renta and Ungaro, As the owner of a modeling agency named after her, she is recognized as the key catalyst in the successes of black supermodels such as Tyson Beckford. She definitely deserves this award because of her perseverance and determination to inform the world about the exclusion of women of color from the fashion industry. It takes only one voice to make a difference.
