STONED CHERRIE: ThisDay/Arise Magazine, African Fashion Collective Fall 2009

Photobucket
Silk charmeuse, silk chiffons, silk taffetas and shwe shwe are some of the fabrics Stoned Cherrie played with for Fall 2009 at the ThisDay/Arise magazine: African Fashion Collective show. Inspired by the now deceased South Africa/African Music Icon, Miriam Makeba, Nkhensani Nkosi [designer behind Stoned Cherrie] did not hold back with beautiful bold colors reflected in blouses, skirts, dresses and accessories. Trend alerts included vibrant torquoise blue and yellow tights.

Careful attention to design details was obvious throughout her designs with cute puffy sleeves on a embroidered sexy mini-dress, glamorous cascading ruffles on a green silk charmeuse blouse whose shwe shwe collar and abstract green banded cuffs made it a winner for the office, board or court room. Yet another showing of careful attention to details was her jeweled collar beautiful orange silk chiffon dress modeled by Supermodel Alek Wek. At times, however, it appeared Nkhensani was trying to do too bit much and could use a little editing, more so from a styling perspective. For example, an overpowering cascading ruffled skirt was paired with an equally overpowering long sleeve blouse.

Overall, a very chic collection fitting for the career minded Ladybrille woman.

A lot of the pieces seemed fussy and heavy handed and I wasnt a fan of the colour palette.
