UN Catwalk the World Ghana-Fashion for Food

I was recently at the UN Catwalk the World event held in Ghana. Supporting the event which was held on Dec. 22nd, 2006 was a no brainer. An opportunity where African fashion designers get a platform to showcase their work while serving the objective of raising monies towards the United Nation's World Food Program's [UN WFP] goal to halve world hunger by 2015, particularly among children, brilliant! The show was overall a success raising $27,000 at the end of the night. However, a key improvement for future shows would be to extend invitations to buyers from the USA & European retail giants/boutiques i.e. Macy’s, Fred Segal e.t.c. Needless to say, it would give African designers a platform to have access to market their products to the Ladybrille woman in the West. Check out some of the fun pics from the event and comeback for a week of beautiful places and things to do in Ghana!

Nigeria's Designer Deola Sagoe brought Africhic Sexy Back! Supermodel Oluchi Struts one of Deola Sagoe's designs on the runway. I am generally not a fan of the puffy slips and bagged hem baby doll dresses but this look works. The heart shaped neckline, cute bow and brilliant combination of rich textured silk with 100% cotton ankara printed fabrics makes this number haute!

Kofi Ansah wowed the audience with his diverse take on the Kente fabric. Especially to my African-American fashion-forward readers, who knew you could be a princess in a gorgeous ballroom gown with fabrics made out of Kente?

Stoned Cherie was very urban chic!

Ozwald Boateng was spectacular with his "Men in Black" type theme

Ozwald Boateng gives british model Toby a totally Parisian GQ touch.

Luxurious and supercomfortable looking pants. Ozwald's confident swagger is super sexy. Here he is doing a cool dance at the end of his show.

Damon Dash, Rachel Roy, Ava and Boogie were in Ghana for the event

Guests also included Noni Gasa, 2005 Face of South Africa Sanlam Fashion Week
