In spite of the global economic crises and a recent $640 million settlement for employment law violations, retail giant Walmart charges ahead with naming Doug McMillion as President and CEO of its International Division. Particularly relevant to the African clothing and textile industries is that McMillion and Mike Duke, President and CEO of Walmart, promise to focus on emerging markets.
“We will continue to focus on emerging markets with strong growth potential, as well as established markets that we believe have the potential to deliver consistently strong returns,” according to Duke.
Never quite free of controversies, nevertheless, Walmart enjoys a relationship with Ghana’s burgeoning garment industry who is now part of the global supply chain to Walmart.
