FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NAWBO-Sac Reveals 2014 “Wind Beneath Our Wings” and "Lifetime Achievement Award" Recipients, Eva Garcia, Pam Marrone Chosen.

Sacramento, CA. (Sept. 18, 2014) – The National Association of Women Business Owners Sacramento (NAWBO-SAC) is pleased to announce the recipients of its “Wind Beneath Our Wings” and "Lifetime Achievement Awards, "which will be presented at its 17th Annual Outstanding Women Leaders Awards (OWL Awards) on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento.

The OWL Awards, to be MC’ed by KFBK’s radio personality Kitty O’Neal, celebrates key women business owners who have excelled as entrepreneurs and community leaders.

NAWBO-Sac will present the "Wind Beneath Our Wings" and "Lifetime Achievement Awards" to two recipients: Eva Garcia and Pam Marrone, Ph.D. Both women have each trail-blazed and excelled in their respective fields while creating numerous economic opportunities for many local citizens.


Garcia, a pioneer and outstanding leader in her own right, celebrates 50 years as a realtor and owner of Garcia Realty, a real estate business she co-founded in 1967 with her now deceased husband.

A world traveler who has traveled to 65 countries, she is the recipient of many awards for her trailblazing and impact driven career as a business owner in Sacramento. Eva is Sacramento’s first Latina broker, the first Latina to serve in Sacramento City Unified School District as a board member, the first Latina City Council Woman for Sacramento, an appointee of Governor Jerry Brown to the California State Board of Education, California State Fair Board of Trustees, an ex-elected President of the Women’s Council of Realtors, ex-President of the Multiple Listing Service (now known as MetroList) of the Sacramento Board of Realtors, an ex- state President of the Women’s Council of Realtors, a co-founding member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and a co-founding member of NAWBO-Sacramento, among many achievements. She is also a past recipient of the OWL ‘Wise Woman’ Award.

Dr. Marrone, CEO of Davis-based Marrone Bio Innovations Inc., is the founder of three (3) companies, one of which produces and sells a bioinsecticide, a biofungicide, and the environmental industry’s only selective and environmentally compatible molluscicide, which kills invasive mussels in rivers, lakes and water systems. In August 2013, she led Marrone Bio Innovations to be listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange, raising net proceeds of $56.4 million.

Marronne is also actively involved and gives back to her local community. She is a founder and board member of the Biopesticide Industry Alliance (BPIA), a trade association of more than 70 biopesticide and related companies, is on the board of the Association of Applied IPM Ecologists Foundation and is a board member/treasurer of the Organic Farming Research Foundation. She also serves on the UC Davis Ag and Environmental Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council, and is purposeful in mentoring, recruiting and employing the next generation of young leaders. Marrone is a past recipient of the OWL Innovator Award.

The Ladybrille ‘Woman of the Month’ is a monthly feature on the magazine’s podcast show ‘Ladybrille Woman Podcast Show and website, that celebrates outstanding women, locally and internationally, for their brilliant contributions to society.

Amabel Niba is a motivational speaker, wife, mother, founder and Editor-in-Chief of Los Angeles based African Vibes Magazine. She earned her Bachelors’ degree in Business Information Systems at Devry College and her MBA at Keller Graduate School, both in Long Beach, California; and was a recipient of a Stanford University Fellowship where she studied Publishing.
