HEAF is organizing an exciting educational service-learning project, Field of Dreams: Migrant Farm Workers, conducted by New York City High School students in partnership with youth organizations in Central Valley, Southern California.About the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, Inc. (HEAF): HEAF is a college prep and youth leadership organization that helps young people to develop the skills necessary to succeed at competitive four-year colleges and universities.
The project: Field of Dreams: Migrant Farm Workers will explore the hidden costs of food production and challenge students to identify ways to support social and economic fair practices as consumers of food. Additionally, participants will examine the toll of migrant farm work on the educational attainment of migrant children. The project will nurture a community of learners who are comfortable with diversity and are open to expanding their knowledge, skills critical to participation in the global community.
One teen has been involved with this program since the 6th grade- he is now in the 10th grade- and the impact this program has had on him has been so important for his growth as a young man in today's society.
